Can’t think of a product idea?

think_tank

Coming up with ideas for a product is one of the hardest things to do especially if this is your first product. The first thing you should do is ask yourself two important questions:

1/ What knowledge do I have?
2/What am I interested in?

Create a list of 10 – 15 product ideas based on your knowledge or interests for example: if I had knowledge in “web design”

My product ideas would be:

1 “how to customize a blog”
2 “Create and sell Wordpress templates”
3 “how to use CPanel”
4 “how to site flip”

Etc.. You get the IDEA!!! You can create video tutorial courses, seminars, eBooks, create software and templates.

Other ways to look for product ideas:
1/ What are your friends and family interested in or have knowledge in create a product based on that.

2/ What questions are your friends, family, colleges, people on social networks are asking over and over again. Maybe you can come up with a product that solves that question.

Go to Yahoo Answers:
Check out what problems people are asking see if you can come up with a solution.

3/ Look at books and magazines that are selling online and offline

Amazon – magazine subscriptions

Amazon – bestsellers
Amazon – magazine subscriptions

Dummies books – where you see a dummies book, there’s usually a market for your product.
Dummies website

4/ look at successful businesses that interest you, and create a product that is better than theirs.

5/ Read business magazines for inspiration on product ideas.

Fast Company
Inc

6/ Look around you, your environment an idea can come from anywhere, the latest news, at the pub, at a park etc

After you have chosen your product ideas, you need to do market research to find out if there is a market for your product. Here’s a link to a video by Frank Haywood teaching you how to use Google search based keyword tools.

Pretty basic stuff, but the truth is most people are not used to really looking creatively about making money. A list like this can really help get them THINKING about what they can do to meet their financial goals. Good work!
